Private dictation means the spoken draft stays local.

Murmur is a native Mac dictation beta for sensitive work. Transcription runs locally with whisper.cpp. Audio and transcripts are not uploaded for transcription.

What stays on your Mac

• Microphone audio used for transcription
• Generated transcript text
• Downloaded Whisper model files
• Local settings such as hotkey, selected model, language, and auto-paste

Approved network actions

Murmur uses outbound network access only for explicit model downloads and user-initiated update checks. Model downloads are confirmed before they start and verified with SHA-256 after download.

What is not collected

• No telemetry or analytics
• No account requirement for the beta
• No background update checks
• No automatic support diagnostics
• No audio recordings or transcription history collection

Local diagnostics

If setup fails, Murmur can copy a local diagnostics report from the setup panel or Settings. This is manual and includes only setup metadata such as app version, macOS version, selected model, permission state, hotkey, language, and auto-paste setting. It excludes audio, transcripts, identifiers, usage history, and analytics.

This beta is not positioned as HIPAA, SOC 2, medical, legal, or enterprise compliant. The source privacy contract lives in the repository as PRIVACY.md.
