Your spoken draft stays on your Mac.

Murmur transcribes microphone audio locally with whisper.cpp. The app does not upload recorded audio or generated transcripts, keep a transcription history, or collect usage analytics.

Recording and transcription

Audio is captured in memory for local processing and is not intentionally written to a recording file. A downloaded model and your app settings are stored on the Mac.

When the app connects

Model downloads begin after you confirm them. They come from approved model hosts and are checked for integrity before installation. Update checks begin only when you choose Check for Updates. With a model installed, dictation works offline.

Downloads and update checks expose ordinary connection metadata, including your IP address, to their hosts. The update check uses the installed app and operating system version to determine compatibility. Murmur does not add telemetry identifiers.

Copying and pasting

For global push-to-talk, Murmur checks that the starting app and text field are still focused before auto-pasting. If they changed, the transcript stays available for manual copy.

Once you copy or paste, the destination app or a clipboard manager may store, sync, or transmit the text. Its privacy practices apply at that point.

Support reports

Diagnostics are copied only when you choose the action. They contain setup information such as app version, macOS version, model, permissions, shortcut, language, and auto-paste settings. They exclude audio, transcripts, usage history, and identifiers. You decide whether to send a report.

Alpha invitation requests

The website asks for your name and email. A Cloudflare Worker saves the request before forwarding it to [email protected]. The queue entry and deduplication hash are deleted after the email service accepts forwarding. Failed deliveries retry for up to 30 days and then expire.

Forwarded emails remain in the invitation inbox so we can respond. To withdraw your request or ask for removal, email [email protected] from the address you used. Invitation details are separate from the Mac app; no dictated audio or transcript is included.

Queue deletion removes the active intake record. Cloudflare recovery copies and mailbox backups may remain under the providers' retention policies; we do not promise immediate physical erasure from every backup.

This website

The site uses no third-party analytics scripts, advertising cookies, or tracking pixels. Cloudflare receives normal request metadata while hosting the site and protecting it from abuse. The request form uses a global intake limit without retaining IP addresses in its application queue.
